Wey General Manager Warns Auto Industry Must Not Rush; V8X Passes 3,277 Extreme Validations
Wey general manager Zhao Yongpo said on August 21 at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show that the automotive industry must not be short-sighted, insisting that vehicles carrying family safety cannot be built in a rush. He cited the Wey V8X, which completed 3,277 extreme-condition validations, including -40°C cold in Heihe, 70°C surface heat in Turpan, high humidity in Hainan, and western Sichuan plateau conditions, with the battery undergoing nearly 10,000 cycle tests. Great Wall Motors chairman Wei Jianjun said on August 17 that the company has never built a "quick-made car" in 36 years.
On August 21, Wey general manager Zhao Yongpo shared his views on the topic of "quick-made cars" in the industry at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show. He said that amid rapid iteration in the automotive industry, Wey reminds itself that a vehicle carrying the safety of a whole family cannot be built with undue haste: processes can be efficient but must not sacrifice quality, and the market may be contested early but craftsmanship cannot be rushed. Earlier, on August 17, Great Wall Motors chairman Wei Jianjun publicly said that the company has not built a single "quick-made car" in its 36-year history.
Wey cited the V8X model as an example of its validation process. The model does not use simulation data to replace real-vehicle testing; the entire vehicle completed 3,277 extreme-condition validations, covering -40°C extreme cold in Heihe, 70°C ground surface temperatures in Turpan, high humidity in Hainan, and plateau conditions in western Sichuan. The battery underwent nearly 10,000 cycle tests. Zhao said the market window is precious, but it must not be seized at the cost of reduced research and development or trimmed validation procedures, leaving problems that should have been solved at the proving ground to users, who are passively turned into free test drivers.
At this year's Chengdu Auto Show, Wey unveiled its V8X, V9X, new Mocha Hi4 Max, and new Alpine family products. In response to industry marketing malpractices such as AI-rendered parameters, synthetic testing, and inflated range figures, Wey publicly committed to embracing AI while using it cautiously: AI is applied only to enhance research and development efficiency and cabin experience, not as a shortcut in marketing packaging. The brand says its engineer-verified quality, visible genuine materials, and full-domain safety and service experience are designed to meet all-scenario travel needs in the Sichuan-Chongqing region.
